I suspect that she'll get into her character a good bit, using the wings and stun-beam more as trapping than as an attempt to break the game. If she doesn't do as I expect, though, I'll probably impose a dragon's-breath-weapon-like limit to the number of times, and the scope of, the stun-beam.

The other reason that I'm allowing it is that this campaign is specifically experimental. I try out house rules I would be hesitant to try out without this "experimental" label on the campaign, add and retire available character classes and outright change rules, and I've extended the invitation to my players to ask to try experimental things as well. You're right, though, that care needs to be taken. I'm not too concerned about game balance to begin with, but I'm certainly not going to allow a "pegacorn" to trample my campaign either; there's a difference between being arguably unbalanced and being a cakewalk. The former is fun, especially when the unbalance shifts this way and that; the latter isn't fun at all, and fun is quite a bit what this game is about.Christopherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16988517412357391012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-283938885302784821.post-39288382631724163352011-07-15T23:41:51.789-07:002011-07-15T23:41:51.789-07:00Very cool session report. That will be further tested in a few weeks when I move east.

That's a tough one about the unicorn. Sounds like a great player that you're happy to have, but you also need to leave yourself the possibility of reining in the details of the horn effect as you go. Carter's done that on several details in our campaign where after a few sessions an innovation (that he explicitly allowed, and maybe even wrote a post endorsing) just upsets the game balance too much. In that case it seems more like a tightening-up of rules than a revision of rules, which has been more palatable to us as players.Spawn of Endrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10431848914619887998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-283938885302784821.post-33712930610021569672011-07-15T22:38:54.006-07:002011-07-15T22:38:54.006-07:00Great story!
